About Me

My name is Tanya Waddell. I am a wife, Christian and mother of 5. I am a neonatal ICU nurse and a pediatric nurse and have been for 30+ years. I have been in the education field for 11 years as of this year. I have taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade science, 8th grade forensics, and Project Lead The Way CTE courses in Automation and Robotics, Design and Modeling, Science of Technology and Medical Detectives. I now have a Bachelor of Science in Science, a Master of Education Administration and a Principalship. I am currently teaching Career and Technology.
I grew up in a small village/lake outside of Lubbock, Texas called Ransom Canyon. I have done many things over my lifetime such as waterski instructor, waitress, hairdresser, and  racehorse groom among other things but none of my previous careers have been as great as teaching. I moved to Rockport over 5 years ago because I had vacationed here over many summers and loved the people and atmosphere and my husband and I had decided to move to the coast as soon as our last child moved out of the house. The last one moved out and then, so did we. Rockport is now my forever home.
The things I love the most besides my family and my kids are animals and anything outdoorsy. And also I am a Texas Tech Red Raider fan. Wreckem Tech!

          CLASSROOM BEHAVIORS & EXPECTATIONS

Creating a learning environment that supports the needs of all students is essential for fostering academic success and personal growth. Redirections and general classroom management strategies will be used to address behaviors. When further

action is needed a student conference will be conducted along with a teacher consequence, which includes parent contact and other pertinent documentation. If behavior persists, students will be referred to administration thoughSkyward, who will contact the parent and may arrange a parent-teacher conference.

CELL PHONES:

To promote the best learning and social environment on campus, cell phone use is prohibited except after the school day, after 4:15 pm. Students must keep their personal devices turned off and put away in their backpack upon entering the building.  The purpose of this cell phone policy is to create an environment that encourages focus, active learning, and healthy technology habits. If a student’s cell phone is visible or they are using a cell phone or electronic device in violation of school or classroom rules, the student will have the item confiscated and turned into the office. Please see district policy on how to pick up confiscated phones.

In accordance with House Bill 1481, students are not allowed to use or possess personal communication devices such as cell phones, smartwatches, tablets, and similar devices on campus during the school day. Devices brought to school will be subject to confiscation, and disciplinary action may follow.

Grades are designed to keep students and families aware of progress. Gradebooks should be updated weekly and progress reports should reflect the most current status of a student’s class average.

RFISD GRADING EXPECTATIONS

Differentiation between minor and major grades is at the discretion of the teacher. As a general rule, minor assignments

encompass daily assignments, formative tasks or quizzes, while major assignments might include tests/quizzes, an

accumulation of daily assignments or formative tasks like warm-ups, journal entries, or closures, larger writing

assignments, projects, or other summative assignments.

Late Minor/Daily Assignments: Students may submit assignments up to 3 school days after the due date. Additional days may

be allowed based on individual situations. 10 points will be deducted from the grade each day an assignment is late.

Re-do Minor Assignments: Students may redo assignments as long as they originally attempted them by the original deadline. The second attempt must be completed outside of the standard class period, within 1 school day of the posted grade, and at least one week before the end of the nine-week grading period. Students may earn full credit on

assignments redone within guidelines.

Re-take Tests/Major Grades: Students will be given an option to retake/make corrections to major assignments when the grade is lower than a 70 within 3 school days of the grade entry in Skyward. The retake must be completed outside of the standard class time, and the maximum grade that can be earned on a retake is 70.

Honors and Advanced Courses: If a student is failing at the end of the first 6-week grading period, the teacher and guardian must meet to discuss a plan for academic success. If a student is failing at the end of the first 9-week grading period or at the end of the semester, the MTSS team will meet to discuss a potential schedule change. Final approval will be determined by the campus principal..

Grading Categories and Percentage Breakdown

Number of Grades: Students will receive a minimum of 14 grades per reporting period. Grades will be posted

within 5 school days of the due date.
